Our lead story today is about the tragic shootings in Dayton, Ohio and El Paso, Texas. In Dayton, Nine people have have been killed by 24 year-old Connor Betts who fired rapidly into a neighborhood within in the Oregon District of Dayton. The tragedy occurred just after 1 a.m. Eastern Time on Sunday, August 4. Betts was killed by police within 30 seconds of the initial gunfire. According to authorities, the .223 Caliber weapon he used was ordered online from Texas and subsequently transferred to Betts via local firearms dealer near Dayton.
In El Paso, at least 20 people are dead after a gunman opened fire at a Walmart. 13 of those 20 killed are U.S. Citizens; the other 7 are citizens are of Mexico. Investigators are reporting the gunman had previously filed an anti-immigrant manifesto online which exuded themes of racism and hate. Some say this prompted President Trump to formally condemn white supremacy, something critics say is long overdue.
